Why does this need speakers, not headphones?+
The test plays a click through your output and listens for it on your microphone. With headphones, the sound never reaches the mic, so nothing will be detected. Use your computer's built-in or external speakers.
What's a 'good' latency number?+
Under ~30ms is generally imperceptible for most recording and calls. 30-100ms is noticeable but usually workable. Above 150-200ms, echo and monitoring feel distinctly delayed — worth checking your audio interface's buffer size settings if you have one.
How accurate is this?+
This measures real round-trip time including the acoustic path from speaker to mic (a few extra milliseconds depending on distance), and browser timing has roughly 15-30ms of its own jitter. Treat the result as a solid estimate, not a lab-grade measurement — run it a few times and look at the median.
